In Your Share (July 16th edition)
Hope you can join us for the upcoming Farm Work Party on Saturday August 4th from 1-5pm at the Grand Island Farm. Help us plant, weed & water, then we’ll celebrate with a BBQ and swim in the river!!
You can download Recipe Packet for this week’s share HERE. These are written by my friend Katherine Deumling at Cook With What You Have. This week there will (finally) be favas, so she included some more recipes for those. And don’t forget that the packet from last week has some too!
We still have a few SUMMER SHARES for sale!! Follow the links above to sign up.
This week your share may include…
- Collards: We think of these as winter greens, but this time of year they are still tender and tasty. Some great summertime recipes for these in your packet.
- Fava Beans: The long awaited, much anticipated fresh fava beans are finally here!! If you don’t have time to shell them, try the Grilled Fava recipe in your packet this week. And don’t forget there were also some great fava recipes in the July 9th packet. too.
- Fennel Bulbs: The big sweet bulbs are back. If you like the bright licorice flavor then shave it raw into salads. The cooked bulbs have a much more mild flavor.
- Spring Garlic: We harvested all the garlic last week and it is drying in the big white barn at Luscher Farm. The heads in your share this week are mature, but haven’t been cured through the drying process. They’re often more mild than fully cured garlic so you can use lots!
- Peas: Sweet Sugar Snap peas make a tasty raw snack just plain or with a dipping sauce.
- Spring Onions: These little red onions still have all their leaves on. Use the bulb as you would a regular onion and think of the green tops as giant scallions.
- New Red Potatoes: The first potatoes of the season are here!
- Radish: These mild summer radishes have nice greens too. The prickles on the leaves disappear completely when you saute them. There’s a recipe for Quinoa Salad with Radish, Spring Onion, and Fennel in your packet this week.
- Rosemary: Small fresh sprigs of rosemary are a classic complement to the new potatoes.
Coming soon… Summer Squash of all shapes & sizes!!
