In Your Share (Sept 21st edition)
The Jimmy Nardello peppers are finally here!! Sweet peppers can be a challenging crop in our climate, especially if they are not grown on plastic. We try to minimize the use of all kinds of non-renewable resources on the farm and that means we have chosen not to grow any of the heat loving crops on plastic mulch. Hopefully you’ll agree that these are worth waiting for.
Hard to believe it’s that time again but the WINTER SHARE is just around the corner. It starts in November so sign up soon!!
You’ll find recipes for everything we grow on the farm at Cook With What You Have. CSA members will find the password to the site in your email – enjoy your 24/7 access to recipe inspiration!
This week your share may include…
- Carrots: Sweet summer carrots.
- Cabbage: I’m definitely making some coleslaw this week!
- Eggplant: Some of these japanese eggplant are almost big enough to make eggplant parmesan! There are also a few green heirloom globe eggplant in the mix.
- Lettuce: These summer crisp lettuce varieties are beautiful & tasty this time of year.
- Jimmy Nardello Peppers: These thin skinned Italian frying peppers are also really great to eat fresh.
- Anaheim Peppers: These can go roasted or raw into salsa verde with the tomatillos! Or use them like the poblano peppers mentioned above.
- Potatoes: Beautiful yellow potatoes
- Summer Squash: Nice mix of green & yellow zucchini, crookneck and patty pan.
- Tomatoes: Both slicing & heirloom tomatoes.
- Tomatillos: Time for Salsa Verde. If your favorite recipe doesn’t call for roasted Anaheim peppers try adding some – its delicious!
