Radicchio from 47th Ave Farm, Portland Oregon

In this week’s Winter CSA pickup Dec 12/14

Want to say a big thank you to the farm crew for picking, washing and packing this winter ❄️ ☔️ 🙏 We have had some very cold and very wet weather the last few weeks and they have busted it out to get your veggies out of the field and into the shares!!

We’re especially excited about the Variegata di Castelfranco chicory this week. We’ve been trialing so many varieties of chicories over the past few years and are happy to have found a few that work well for us. This one is beautiful and – after the frost – has a nice balance of bitter and sweet that is so characteristic of the best chicories. Wondering what’s the difference between chicory & radicchio? Want to do a deep dive into this delicious Italian bitter green? Check out the Radicchio Zine (pdf) from our very own Land Selman at the Culinary Breeding Network

If you haven’t signed up for Fruit and/or Eggs from our partner farms, there is still time to do that…

The Schedule: We’ll be giving most of the farm crew a well deserved break for the holidays. Look forward to seeing you the week of Jan 9th 2024! After that, all the pickups will be twice a month and every other week… 1/9, 1/23, 2/6, 2/20, 3/5, 3/19, 4/2, & 4/16. In case you need a refresher, they will always on our home page.
