In this week’s Winter CSA pickup
Happy New Year!
It was a nice surprise this week to find some early Purple Sprouting Broccoli in the field. There will just be a little bit in the share today, and hopefully more coming soon. It will be really good sautéed with some beautiful pink music garlic!
You’ll get to choose from a few different types of chicory at pickup today. No matter which variety you get, they all have a delicious balance of bitter & sweet flavor. Sauté the chopped greens, then cook with white beans for a simple but tasty traditional soup.
Wondering what’s the difference between chicory & radicchio? Want to do a deep dive into this delicious Italian bitter green? Check out the Radicchio Zine (pdf) from our very own Land Selman at the Culinary Breeding Network. The zine also includes one of my very favorite recipes – Insalata Nostrana from Cathy Whims – yum!!
(p.s. — we’ve still got prorated winter/spring CSA shares available, and you can still hop on the Fruit CSA and Egg CSA trains, too!)
